NCTAS-P Accredited Dog Teams
The Gold Standard in Explosive Detection Dog Teams
At Inquest Detection, we’re all about rigorous standards in security and detection services. We know that in today’s world, safety can’t be taken lightly. Our NCTAS-P accredited dog teams adhere to strict guidelines, training and assessment set by the Home Office. This ensures a consistent and reliable approach to detection, providing trusted support when it’s needed most.
We are one of only a handful of businesses nationally to hold the accreditation, and the only one based in the North of England.

What is NCTAS-P?
NCTAS-P stands for the National Canine Training and Accreditation Scheme for the Private Security Industry. Launched in March 2021, this scheme provides a pathway for private sector Explosives Detection Dog (EDD) teams to receive formal accreditation recognised by government bodies. Developed in collaboration with the Home Office, Counter Terrorism Policing, and the National Protective Security Authority, NCTAS-P aligns with the UK’s counter-terrorism strategy, offering a standardised framework for private security providers.
The purpose of the NCTAS-P is to enhance public safety by ensuring that private sector EDD teams maintain high operational standards. The scheme demands rigorous assessments of both the handler and the dog, focusing on their ability to conduct systematic and effective searches for explosives in varied environments. These teams are assessed annually to ensure they remain competent and adhere to the latest practices in explosives detection.
Training for NCTAS-P accreditation involves a comprehensive curriculum, which includes odour recognition, safe search techniques, and handling multiple threat-related substances. It allows for interoperability between private security services and governmental bodies, ensuring that all accredited teams meet a national standard of performance and reliability. By choosing NCTAS-P accredited teams, organisations can feel reassured about the quality and reliability of their security measures.
NCTAS-P is not just a badge of approval but a necessary component for private sector security providers who wish to offer credible, high-standard detection services.
